American computertrash ends to Chinese willages.

Lot of American computertrash ends to China where it is burned and crushed whithout caring about exponsure of the workers and enviroment to toxins.
The report described detailed, how American computers are destroyed and the trash is spread to meadows and rivers.
In last December represensatives of organisations went to see how men, women and children hauled cables out of computers and burned them at nights. Cancer causing gases spread into the air. Less than two euros per day earning, almost unprotected workers burnt plastic and poured acids over the trash in order to separate gold and silver.
The groundwater is so polluted, that drinking-water has to be transported from a distance of 30km. One of the samples taken from the river crossed World Health Organisation WHO:s recommendation for 190-times.
Every year miljons of computers remain out of use, when technology developes more efficient and cheaper computers.
In America a couple of companies have started recycling, but it causes some major expenses to the customers.
In the USA recycling of electronics hasn't been organised like in Japan or many European countries. Biggest part of devices ends to distributors and parts dealers, said Ted Smith. He works in Silicon Valley Toxic Colition and he participated to create the report.
The report estimated that over half of electronic trash which is collected in USA, ends abroad. Trash is transported to China, India and Pakistan.                       In Helsingin-Sanomat 26.2.2002
